Echo Hawk Consulting releases “Feeding Ourselves: Food Access, Health Disparities, and the Pathways to Healthy Native American Communities”
Echo Hawk Consulting, headed by Crystal Echo Hawk, released today a comprehensive report on the state of food access in Native American communities, and the resulting health disparities in Native Americans. The report – commissioned by the American Heart Association (AHA) and its Voices for Healthy Kids®a joint initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) and AHA – calls for tribes, the federal government, and philanthropic organizations to serve as agents of change in the area of Native food access.

The Notah Begay III Foundation (NB3F)’s national program, Native Strong: Healthy Kids, Healthy Futures is pleased to announce its 2015 “Seeds of Native Health” Capacity Building Grant Request For Proposals (RFP). Thanks to the generous support of the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community (SMSC) and their recently launched national campaign, “Seeds of Native Health”, the NB3F will provide needed investment to tribes and native organizations working to improve nutrition and access to healthy foods for their children and communities.

First Nations Development Institute now accepting applications for “Seeds of Native Health” grants under its Native agriculture and food systems initiative
First Nations Development Institute (First Nations), a national Native American nonprofit organization that works to improve Native economies and communities, is now accepting proposals for its new “Seeds of Native Health” grant program under its Native Agriculture and Food Systems Initiative (NAFSI). The purpose of the Seeds of Native Health campaign is to support Native tribes and organizations working to eliminate food insecurity, promote access to fresh and healthy foods, and provide increased access to nutritional programs aimed at improving the overall nutrition and health of Native people and communities.

Shakopee Mdewakanton and national partners launch $5 million campaign to improve Native American nutrition
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community and three nationally significant partners today announced Seeds of Native Health, a major philanthropic campaign to improve the nutrition of Native Americans across the country. The SMSC is committing $5 million to launch the campaign and plans to recruit other funding and strategic partners.
